OUR MISSION

BETTER SUPPORT FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE

OUR FOCUS

EDUCATION

We see education as a foundation for long-term success, especially for adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors who often face setbacks during critical years of growth. Our programs are designed to help scholars regain momentum and build meaningful futures—through mentorship, academic support, and career development opportunities. Grounded in data and shaped by the lived experiences of our scholars, we create pathways that reflect their unique journeys. Every resource we provide is centered on helping them move forward with confidence and purpose.

ADVOCACY

Adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors are often left out of traditional support systems, despite facing some of the most complex long-term challenges. We use research, survivor insights, and national data to shine a light on this underserved population and advocate for real, measurable change. Our programs and policy efforts are grounded in what the data tells us—and more importantly, in what our scholars live every day. By amplifying their stories and backing them with evidence, we work to close critical gaps in care, education, and awareness.

FINANCIAL AID

For many adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors, the financial burden of treatment can make higher education feel out of reach. Our scholarships are designed to ease that burden and open doors to opportunity. We understand that cancer doesn't just disrupt health—it creates lasting financial strain during a critical stage of life. That’s why we prioritize the real, pressing needs of our scholars, ensuring they have the support to keep moving forward with their education and their future.

WHO WE SERVE

ADVOCATING FOR UNDERSERVED SURVIVORS

The Ruth Cheatham Foundation is dedicated to supporting adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors, ages 17 to 26, who often face unique challenges that go beyond their health.

These young adults frequently experience financial hardships and limited access to higher education opportunities due to the lasting impacts of their cancer journey.

Our programs are designed to uplift and empower these underserved survivors by providing scholarships, academic support, and essential resources tailored to their specific needs during this critical phase of life.

WHAT WE DO

SUPPORT BEYOND SCHOLARSHIPS

For adolescent and young adult cancer survivors, the path forward is often filled with invisible obstacles—emotional, financial, and academic. At TRCF, we meet them at that crossroads with meaningful, ongoing support.

Everything we do is rooted in one goal: helping young survivors reclaim their futures.

We provide more than just scholarships. We offer connection, encouragement, and practical tools that help survivors return to school, stay on track, and thrive.

WHY IT MATTERS

CANCER SHOULDN’T CANCEL OPPORTUNITY

Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer are often caught in a gap—too old for pediatric support, too young for adult systems. As a result, they’re one of the most underserved cancer populations in the U.S.

There are few dedicated resources for what comes after treatment: finishing high school, applying to college, managing student debt, or simply adjusting to life as a survivor.

Educational support is especially rare, despite the fact that most AYAs are at a pivotal point in their academic journey when they’re diagnosed. This lack of targeted support creates lasting setbacks in education, employment, and mental health.

That’s why TRCF steps in to bridge the gap. We’re not just helping young survivors gain access to a higher education, we’re giving them a fair shot at the future they deserve.
